November-December 2019 issue #127

Welcome to our 21st anniversary issue. November is National Adoption Month and our cover story is the Ames family of California. Gay Parent Magazine previously featured Amber and Nani Ames in 2017 when the couple were young foster care parents only in their twenties. Since then they have adopted two children with a third on the way.

In this issue use our listing of adoption and foster care related resources and services to build and nurture your family. Read about other families that have built their families through fost-adopt. Aubrey and Clark fost-adopted their children through the Child and Family Services Agency of Washington DC and Steve and Rob Anderson-McLean of Pennsylvania adopted a set of six siblings!

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Robyn Harrod gives valuable information for those interested in adopting in her article, Adoption Options for the LGBTQIA+ Community.

Other family stories include the Vandagriffts of Indiana and Alphonso Reyes of New York writes about the recent passing of his husband Melvin and raising their son.

For those living in Chicago, you’ll be pleased to know about the family programming at Center on Halsted. Center on Halsted is the most comprehensive LGBTQ community center in the Midwest. Like each September-October issue, our November-December issue features a directory of LGBTQ friendly independent schools. In this issue they are located in CA, CT, DC, FL, IL, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, NJ, NY, PA, TX, VA, and WA. Included are day and boarding schools, schools for just boys or just girls, schools for children with learning differences, and multilingual schools. Looking for a LGBTQ friendly independent school for your child in one of these areas? Then this is the issue for you.
